Our liquid magnesium chloride, is available in various concentrations of MgCl2 (magnesium chloride) and is commercially available 500 to 1000 gallon bulk delivery and intermediate bulk containers (called IBCs) or totes holding 200 to 300 gallons each; 55-gallon drums; and in smaller consumer packaging.
·Winter – Pre-wetting
Liquid magnesium chloride deicer is used to pre wet dry products, like rock salt and sand, to improve their performance. The added moisture when sprayed on dry material has several benefits, including less material used with similar performance. Moist salt sits on the surface, and “scatter” from traffic is reduced, saving material cost and benefiting the surrounding environment with less material on the shoulder of the road. The liquid magnesium activates the brining process of the salt, providing a spike in temperature, which improves the performance. You’ll also use less of the material, and you’ll find that it works at significantly lower temperatures than using straight salt without pre-wetting. When used for pre-wetting, the liquid magnesium is usually sprayed right at the spinner just before the salt scatters on the desired surface that is being treated

Consider this: 300 lbs per lane mile (10′ X 5280′) of salt is generally accepted as the starting point in most situations. By adding only 8-12 gallons (per ton of salt) of our liquids, we can reduce the application to only 200 lbs per lane mile and still maintain the exact same level of performance. This technique was first documented by the “Marquette Study” nearly 30 years ago.
